Zen's Guide Zen

It’s now the 3rd week in June as I write, the “Roll of Honour” has now reached 72 carp over 50lbs landed so far, a few 60’s as well, including a new venue and lake record of 68lbs from Lake 3, (as ever!!)
We are having another fantastic season once again, the fish have long finished spawning, and as lots of you fear it doesn’t put an end to the sport if they do spawn, as no doubt you have found out, crappy weather conditions, on the other hand do!!

It does not matter where you are in the world fish are still ruled by the weather conditions.
The sports at present I’ve noticed had been up and down on various lakes, and some of this believe it or not is due to the carp fry-feeding on the massive shoals of tiny fry mainly roach and perch, along now with tiny carp fry too. You may have noticed, in particular on 1 for instance, when you net a carp you find a load of small fry in your net as well, most people think they have scooped them up whilst netting the carp WRONG!!

Issue 5

You will find that the carp you have just landed has regurgitated the fry, in most cases you should see that some of the fry has been part digested. Other times you may have noticed fish striking at the shoals of fry on the top of the bar in 1. Most think it’s one of the big cats feeding, but 9 times out of 10 it’s the carp that are doing the feeding.

What’s been working?
The most popular bait this year has got to be Mainlines “Cell” bait, both here and at home.
We do recommend you order your bait prior to your holiday and at English prices £90 per 10kg for either the frozen range, of Cell or Active-8. We also have stocks of bait at the lodge, but these work out more expensive because of the strength of the Euro at the moment!
