Good ‘Evans - new PB’s all round on DL2
by Richard Evans & Jason Smith

Dear Gone Fishing,

I thought I would write to thank you for a wonderful week’s fishing. My mate Jason and I were looking forward to a relaxing holiday with quality fishing. We had read a lot about DreamLakes and were itching for the week to arrive.

The week we had chosen was the second week in April, early Spring. When the day finally arrived, we got to Dover early and spent a few hours in “The Primrose” where we met a few other anglers and whittled away the time with talk of tactics and monster carp.

The time came and the coaches arrived, it was great to see there were now two of them, which meant there would be plenty of legroom for the journey.

After a quick ferry crossing and a short nap later, we were arriving at the complex. ‘A cup of tea and a warm welcome’ - just what was needed.

We had a brief chat with the Bailiff, Chilly, for some valuable information on the previous week. It had been slow fishing with nights of -6C. However, even with these conditions most people were still catching around 10 fish each.

The forecast for the week ahead was good. So with this our confidence was running high.

The long awaited draw for swims was quick and we were soon heading around DreamLake 2 towards our chosen swims.

As we were setting up base camp our confidence continued to grow as we could hear and see fish crashing everywhere. It seemed the fish were awake and wanting a good munch. We intended to give it to them.

Two weeks prior to our trip we had phoned Lockie at Solar and ordered 15 kilos each of Club Mix, rolled with squid & octopus and salmon oil. This was to be our main plan of action.

Next, we decided to find a feature between the two swims we had chosen. We found a large gravel patch and went about putting in 15 kilos from the off. ‘They'll ‘av it’ we thought. We would top it up with a kilo twice a day.

For the first two days the fishing was slow with only one carp each to show for our efforts. On day three we were questioning our judgement when Jason’s left hand rod was away. Soon after, a mid thirty was having her picture taken.

After this we never looked back. Patience and faith in a quality bait are the main ingredients for success. A top class venue crawling with lumps is an added advantage!!!

That week we went on to catch 63 carp between us, 14 of which were over 30lb and 3 were over 40lb, including a 40lb common. Only 6 of them were under 20lb.

On the last morning, as we were packing away the gear, I had a personal best mirror of 44lb 4oz. What a way to finish off the week!

A fantastic week, great food, new friends made and , most of all, BIG fish. We will certainly be back next year.

Thanks,
Richard Evans & Jason Smith
