R.A.M.
on Tour 2002
by Ken May
We are a small syndicate
of 18 anglers known as R.A.M. (Rowhedge Angling Management).
In the year 2000, nine members, including myself, took
a trip
to DreamLake
1 with Gone Fishing. A brilliant time was had by all and,
upon our
return, we promptly booked the second trip: RAM on Tour 2002 -
THE RETURN.
By now the members missing
out on the first trip had heard all the amazing stories
and so it became a group of 15, enough to book the whole
of DreamLake 1. So with tour T-shirts organised (complete
with nicknames on the back), time sped by and before we
knew it the date of the trip had nearly arrived.
Graham at Gone Fishing had
allowed us to hold our own swim draw which we obviously
made a night of with the obligatory BBQ round at John Gants
(Swampy) house (his wifes chilli and lasagne are
the bizz!).
Martin Cuthbertson and myself
were the unofficial trip organisers and despite our best
efforts, all we could manage to pull out of the hat on
the night were numbers 12 (Martin) and 15 (me).
Oh well, at least I didnt
have a lot of decision making to do
. it was a case
of choosing from what was left!
On arrival at DreamLakes,
the swim choice went its normal course with the bar
swims being occupied first and, eventually, the last choice
was to be made by me
I chose Deer Dip, which I
fished on the last trip and managed a 41lb mirror before
moving.
Anyway, I managed to land
11 carp up to 36lb, including my first 30lb+ Common at
33lb.
I also had 2 Cats, one at
24lb the other at 65lb. check out the photo with my son
Perry (Junior Carlsberg). Our party had over 100 fish with
the action spread all through the week.
In fact, on the last day
five different members fulfilled their dreams, each one
landing a 40lb+. There was actually thirteen 40s
landed in total, plus one at 52lb, in addition to the many
twenties and thirties that made up most of the rest.
The party also set a new
DreamLake Catfish record with guest Mark Linsell landing
an 81lb 5oz six and a half foot long beast. It was far
too big for him to hold on his own, but not to worry, son
Perry was on hand to help out.
Once again the trip was brilliant
and, although this is not an advert for Gone Fishing, I
must say that they have got it right when it comes to this
sort of holiday.
The organisation is exceptional
and the standards are maintained by head Bailiff, Matt,
running a super set up aided by a very loyal team. There
are loads more photos, so keep scrolling!
